I am a member of a local football club and would

like to know how I would go about hiring a training

area or pitch? We feel that decreased usage of our pitch

would be particularly beneficial during the winter months.

I am currently involved in the running of a Bridgend

based badminton team. A friend has told me

about the Community Chest scheme.

Am I eligible and if so how do I apply?

Community Chest is a Sports Council Wales grant-aid scheme funded by the National Lottery.
It aims to support the development of sport and physical activity in the community.
The administration of the scheme is made possible by the support of each local authority in Wales. Any organisation can apply for a maximum of £750 within the following guidelines:

* Organisations must hold a bank or building society account.

* Organisations must have an acceptable constitution or set of rules.

* Grants must be additional to existing or normally funded services.

* Sports clubs that return to Community Chest for a second or subsequent award must be affiliated to the governing body of their sport and be working towards club models or accreditation schemes where they exist.

My son is interested in taking up a team sport.

How can I check that a club or coach

is suitably trained and responsible

for me to allow him to attend?

You could begin by checking that a club is affiliated to a relevant national governing body. You could also request information from the club on coaching qualifications, C.R.B. checks and current child protection procedure within the organisation.
