Sports Club Programme Child Protection Sport can contribute positively to the development of individuals. It is a vehicle for physical, mental, personal, social and emotional development when guided by an informed, caring and enlightened coach operating within an accepted ethical framework. Keeping children safe when they are at sport or other organised activities is one of the principal goals of Bridgend Sports Development.
National Governing Body Child Protection Courses and Sports Council Child Protection Awareness courses cover all the main areas of abuse and they contain practical step by step advice on how you can develop and maintain an effective child protection policy. It is essential that all Clubs, Coaches, Volunteers seriously consider attending an awareness course as an individual or as part of their club.
Many clubs or organisations will have their own nominated child protection officer. In other cases referrals can be made by telephone to Social Services as soon as suspicion or concern becomes apparent.
