The Sports Horizons Programme Communities First Based on the National multi-deprivation index, the National Assembly has worked with local authorities to identify communities that are most in need of support. The Sports Council for Wales via its social inclusion programme and recent review of its priorities have recognised the importance of the communities first areas for targeted sports development and investment in facilities. Within Bridgend County Borough, the following communities have been identified based on their high deprivation rankings: *Caerau *Llangeinor *Bettws *Blackmill Supported by Sports Council for Wales significant investment is being levered into these catchment areas via Sportlot, the lottery sports fund for Wales. Evanstown All Sports Project Almost £950,000 invested into a new sports pavilion, floodlit multi sport court, refurbishment of sports hall and drainage of 2 sports pitches. Garw Valley Leisure Centre Almost £800,00 of refurbishment work creating a fitness centre, dance studio, floodlit multi-sport court, improved sports hall and upgraded changing facilities. Bettws Sports Project Almost £350,000 to re-develop the changing pavilion and construction of a floodlit multi sport court. Ogmore Comprehensive School Almost £400,000 to construct a floodlit artificial sports pitch, dance studio and changing room improvements. |
